(title, dedication and table), CCIIII ff. ; [8] ff. (title and table), CXCIX ff. ; [12] ff. (with one blank page), CCLXXVI ff. (with foliation errors). Red morocco, rich gilt decoration with threaded compartments on the boards with mosaic green morocco fleurs-de-lis, richly decorated ribbed spine, midnight blue morocco lining with fleur-de-lis and arms of France gilt and mosaic in the center, double fillet on the edges, inner gilt lace, gilt and chased edges on marble (Lortic). Third edition and the second illustrated one, printed in gothic type on two columns of 50 lines. It is decorated with 3 xylographed titles, 2 large woodcut grotesque initials, about fifty woodcuts of which 26 are full-page and some are repeated, as well as numerous engraved initials. Famous chronicle retracing the history of the kingdom of France, which was collected for the first time by Saint Louis. Initially commissioned from the monk Primate of Saint-Denis in the mid-thirteenth century, it was later enriched with new episodes added by other monks of the Abbey of Saint-Denis and then by members of the king's entourage. An extraordinary copy in a stunning Lortic lined binding with beautifully chased edges bearing the arms of France. It comes from the libraries of Léon Rattier and Edouard Moura with ex-libris.
