WASMUTH (Matthias)
Novum opus astro-chronologicum quinque classibus. Kilonii, Apud Haered. Wasmuth, Typis Joachim Reumanii, 1692. Large folio, 19th century boards. Lalande, p. 326. First edition, dedicated to Queen Christine of Sweden, of these considerable astronomical and chronological tables by Matthias Wasmuth (1625-1688), a German theologian and orientalist born and died in Kiel. Lackmann, quoted by Deschamps, col. 690, implies that Professor Wasmuth and his son, who bears the same name, owned a private printing house in Kiel, which operated in 1692 under the direction of Joachim Reumann, typographer of the University. Browning paper, like many books published across the Rhine in the 17th century. Some pages show traces of consolidation, title repaired at lower corner.
