Very rare first edition of this relation of the official expedition delegated by the East India Company to take possession of the island of Madagascar in 1665. It contains details on the religion and customs of the Madécasses, as well as on the natural history of this island. Dedicated to Colbert, the edition was shared between three booksellers as indicated in the privilege: François Clousier, Jean de La Tourette and Pierre Auboüin. It is adorned with the map showing the Fort Dauphin, drawn by the sieur de Flacourt, which is almost always missing. Restored hinges, headpieces and corners.
