MOLIERE.
Les Oeuvres. Paris, Claude Barbin, 1666. 2 volumes in-12, midnight blue morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate spine, red morocco lining, inner lace, gilt edges (Trautz-Bauzonnet). First collective edition with continuous pagination, decorated with 2 copper-engraved frontispieces by François Chauveau, which represent Molière in the roles of Sganarelle and Mascarille for the first one, Molière in the role of Arnolphe and his wife Armande Béjart for the second one. It includes: Les Précieuses ridicules, Le Cocu imaginaire, L'Estourdy and Dépit amoureux (volume I), and Les Facheux, L'École des maris, L'Escole des femmes, La Critique de l'Escole des femmes and Les Plaisirs de l'Isle enchantée (volume II). A very fine copy in lined binding, from the library of Jean Meyer (I, 1996, n°61), member of the Comédie française and a great Molière specialist. It is extremely rare, says Guibert, to find this edition with both volumes under the name of the same publisher, the edition having been shared between seven booksellers. From the library of Michel Dubos (2019, n°233). Very small paper loss in the margin of the P3 leaf.
