VASE-PORTRAIT Mochica Culture, Northern Peru Intermediate Elder, 100 B.C. - 600 AD H. 28.5 cm - w. 14 cm Ceramic with brick-red slip and creamy white paint Beautiful portrait vase characteristic of mochica ceramics representing a man's head. Finely modelled face wearing a classical headdress decorated with triangular motifs covering the nape of the neck and the ears. On the top of the skull, there is a bowed handle and a vertical tubular neck. Broken glued in several places, visible splinters. Provenance: - Franco Monti Collection, 1960s-1970s.
