Treatise on the honest state of the Christians in their clutches. Geneva, Jean de Laon, 1580. In-8, 191 pp.: fawn calf, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated, repeated crowned numerals, red edges (18th century binding). Original edition. Lambert Daneau (1530-1595), Calvinist pastor born in Loiret, is the author of treatises which marked Protestant theology at the end of the 16th century and at the beginning of the following century. Here he warns the reformed faithful against immoral and decadent ways of dressing. Typographical mark with Patience, by Jean de Laon, on the title (cf. Silvestre, no. 652). The collector is famous for having bought in 1680 the prints from the collection of Jacques-Auguste de Thou, and bears on the upper back cover a manuscript number (3.c.p.T.2.M.3) in the hand of the Cardinal of Rohan-Soubise (see the catalogue of the 1788 sale, no. 642), who had acquired most of the Menarsia
