Haemastatics, or animal statics: hydraulic experiments on live animals. With a collection of some experiments on stones found in the kidneys & bladder; & research on the nature of these irregular concretions. Geneva, Héritiers Cramer & Frères Philibert, 1744. In-4, ocellated basane, spine decorated, red title coin, red edges (contemporary binding). Blake, p. 194. First edition in French of one of the most important books on blood circulation, by the English biologist Stephen Hales (1677-1761). It was translated by Boissier de Sauvages, who accompanied it with remarks and two medical essays on the theory of inflammation and the cause of fever. Lower cap destroyed. Original edition of Buffon's French translation of the first complete treatise on plant physiology. It is decorated with 10 folding plates containing 20 figures engraved on copper by Maisonneuve. This translation is the first written work of the naturalist and future administrator of the Jardin des plantes de Paris.
