Rare model of an anatomical eye in ivory, horn and glass in a turned ivory and hardwood box with a baluster grip. The eye is composed of a dozen elements that fit around a stem: the sclera with painted internal blood vessels, the choroid and retina, the iris, the cornea and the lens. Southern Germany, Nuremberg, attributed to Stephan Zick, circa 1700 Height of the eye: 2,2 cm - Total height: 8 cm - Gross weight: 48 g (some accidents and missing parts) Since the 17th century, many anatomical models have been made such as mannequins, skulls, skeletons or eyes. The finesse and ingenuity of the execution of this eye link this work to the works of the Nuremberg ivory-maker Stephan Zick, whose workshop, famous throughout Europe, produced objects of this style for medical faculties but also for cabinets of curiosities or natural history. The Sir Henry Wellcome Museum in London has several models.
