Paris, Madame Charles Béchet, 1834-1835. 12 volumes in-8, half-basecloth with corners, spine decorated, red title and olive tomaison, untrimmed (Modern binding). First attempt of La Comédie humaine. This collection is divided into three series of four volumes and contains several novels in first edition, in particular Eugénie Grandet, the first great public success of the author. The other unpublished texts are the following: La Fleur des Pois (which will become Le Contrat de mariage), La Recherche de l'absolu, the last two chapters of La Femme de trente ans, La Femme abandonnée, La Grenadière, L'Illustre Gaudissart, La Vieille fille, the first part of Les Illusions perdues, Les Deux poètes, Les Marana, and l'Histoire des Treize (including La Comtesse aux deux maris, which will later become Le Colonel Chabert). A nice copy, perfectly bound in the taste of the time.
