ZWEIG Stefan (1881-1942).
Autograph letter signed to Mr. [Simon] Kra, Salzburg, January 14, 1926. 1 p. 1/2 in-folio. Nice header with his initials. Unable to attend a Charavay auction, he sends Simon Kra to bid and gives him his orders "I enclose my limits (...)". He continues on his projects, his passion for autographs and his bibliophilic research "I am going to give a series of conferences, first on the 24th at the municipal theater of Zurich, then Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Bonn, Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig. It is necessary to earn money for the autographs, those beautiful vampyres. In my limits, the one for Baudelaire and Jean Baptiste Rousseau is missing. I asked Charavay, if he can't share the Jean Baptiste Rousseau number (...) I only want the Ode (...) Before Rétif de la Bretonne, I would like to buy a complete edition of the "Contemporaries" or the "Oeuvres Complètes" (...) I don't have yet the prices of Balzac and Paul Valery, which interested me a lot. The publication of Royère seems to me condemned to a premature death. This man, so educated and excellent poet, forgot that there are also people of a certain culture outside France and that it would be necessary to interest them too (...) I work. My books are now doing best in Russia - print, on print, but without a penny for the author of course. All the same, it amuses me (...)".
