GENET Jean (1910-1986).
2 autograph letters signed to Antoine Bourseiller, March 24, 1975 and (s.l.n.d.) 2 pp. in-folio. Beautiful letterhead of the Théâtre Récamier Bourseiller, for the letter of March 24. (s.d.) He begins by presenting his apologies, then evokes the theater "...It is also to apologize that I am writing to you, I have a thousand marks and a wounded foot. Since I have to go with Mohamed to Marseille, I will not see you again until I return. As for the shows, to the general laws of the show there is one that one must absolutely recognize: the spectator will be so amazed by the play of the actors that he must dread their exit. He whispers to himself, if you are worth: - "Actor, you are so wonderful, that I fear your departure, even brief, from the stage. I am afraid, admirable actor, that the backstage devours you". And I shout to you, "Actor, be so beautiful, so admirable in a few seconds that those seconds have fulfilled my need for wonder!" If the show holds - or is held by - the opposite speech, that is, "Actor, go away it's lost. You know this much better than I do. I have never been on stage and never been asked to sparkle. What sudden sadness in the audience when Grock? pretended to leave the ring. Be sure that I will not interfere in your work, I say like that, three or four words that everyone has known for a long time..."; on March 24 he specifies "... I authorize Mr. Antoine Bourseiller - and I beg him to receive the sum of 10,000 (ten thousand) francs representing an advance on my rights and others of the Balcony, (a play I wrote) and which will be played at the Théâtre Récamier on April 22...".
