GUILLOUX (Louis).
The Bread of Dreams. AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT. Approximately 200 pages on fine paper in several bundles held together with pins or paper clips. Pencil notes on the pages or on interspersed blank sheets indicate the pagination which corresponds to that of the printed volume. Some passages are variants or have not been retained (therefore are unpublished). Important handwritten "fragment" of the autobiographical novel in which Louis Guilloux, the author of Sang noir, recalls his Breton childhood in Saint-Brieuc. It was published in 1942 by Gallimard and won the Prix du Roman Populiste the same year. Le Pain des rêves was adapted by Louis Guilloux himself and the director Jean-Paul Roux for television in 1974. The school scenes were shot in Saint-Brieuc at the Baratoux school. The old districts of the city, such as the rue Fardel, were also used as filming locations. Set of press clippings attached, relating to Guilloux.
