CAILLOIS (Roger).
Autograph letter signed to André THIRION. Paris, February 10, 1972, 1 p. 1/2 in-4. Beautiful letter. Hot reactions during the reading of Révolutionnaires sans révolution by André Thirion which had just appeared. Caillois reads the book with pleasure, passion and admiration. Not only is it a fundamental, irreplaceable testimony, never attempted with such breadth and meticulousness, but it also bears witness to exceptional literary qualities in the art of the narrative as well as in that of the portrait (that of BRETON, all physical, is admirable) so that it exceeds by far the documentary interest that will compel for a long time to refer to it all those who are fascinated by this period (...) Far from having finished it, he couldn't wait to manifest his enthusiasm... Of course, I don't agree with every page, but it doesn't matter, the intelligence, the firmness of the thought, a brilliant good faith, constantly sensitive, will force the sympathy and the conviction, and make that the disputed detail or the not shared preference don't have much importance. One is carried along without being able to stop. This is rare, when the quality does not suffer. The letter is reinforced with sticky paper on one side.
