ARTAUD (Antonin).
Autograph letter signed to the Minister of Public Instruction. 2 p. in-4 (31 x 21 cm) on double sheet. Paris, October 16, 1931. Request for subsidies to the Minister of Public Instruction (at the time Marius Roustan), with the support of his "protector" Jean Paulhan who notes at the top of the letter: M. Antonin Artaud is a remarkable writer, and moreover perfectly honest and upright. I take the liberty of respectfully recommending him to the benevolence of the Minister. I am the author, among other books, of a sort of adaptation of Lewis' "The Monk" published last March by Denoël and Steele, as well as several booklets published by Gallimard... I have been a regular contributor to the Nouvelle Revue Française since 1924. He is also the founder of the Alfred Jarry Theater and Artaud gives details of the shows that have been produced. I am presently completing a Vie d'Abélard which occupies me exclusively and obliges me to do very assiduous research in several libraries and it is to bring this work to a successful conclusion and in complete freedom that I am asking for this help... The Cabinet of the Minister noted on the letter in pencil: " 33 years not married ". Traces of fold.
