Paris, Jehan Trepperel, [1510/1514]. In-8 (185 x 130 mm) of [44] ff. (sig. A4, B8, c4, d8, e4, f8, g-h4) Brown morocco, boards decorated with a rich decoration "à la Duodo" formed of floral medallions in multiple gilt frames, ornate ribbed spine, double gilt fillet on the edges and headpieces, cream vellum lining, gilt edges, book-shaped morocco case (Thibaron-Joly). ORIGINAL EDITION OF VERY GREAT RARITY of the chronicle of the count of Arian de Provence dedicated to Louis XII, printed in gothic letters on two columns. It is decorated with 4 engraved figures, two of which are large, and several ornamented initials, all engraved on wood. "To be situated in the last productions of J. Trepperel I, or, by the form of the title, in the very first of his successors, before the death of the dedicatee Louis XII (1515)". (Bechtel) The work, mixing history and legend, relates the stay of the Provençal lord Aulzias de Sabran in Sicily and Naples, and recalls how he came back to Avignon as an ambassador. It mentions his wife, the Dauphine du Puy-Michel, countess of Arian - The life of the benign Dauphine du Puy-Michel countess of Arian made by maistre Pierre Eberhard inquisitor of the faith is moreover part of this volume - and it is treated several times of genealogy and Provencal lineages. The colophon reports that this chronicle was printed at the request of Pierre de Sabran, lord of Beaudiner in the country of Provence, "de la lignye dudit saint conte Aulzias de Sabran". Brunet (IV, 1107) describes the work as rare and mentions that Etienne Binet wrote in the 16th century a legend of the two lovers of Sabran under this title: La vie et les vertus de S. Elzear de Sabran et de la comtesse Dauphine, vierges et mariez. Superb copy in an exquisite binding "à la Duodo" by Thibaron-Joly, of a great virtuosity and finesse of execution. A few leaves trimmed short in the outer margin of which 2 with damage to the text. Ex-libris Paul Arbaud, famous bibliophile from Aix (ex-libris bearing his motto in Provençal "Mi fan gau" : "They make my joy" ). Bechtel, Gothiques, R-36 (quotes this copy).
