* Eskimo head Bering Strait - Alaska / Canada Thule... - Lot 171 - Giquello
* Eskimo head Bering Strait - Alaska / Canada Thule culture (18th century or earlier) Walrus tooth H. 3 cm Provenance : - Galerie Yann Ferrandin Superb little head with a striking expression, probably a fragment of a statuette or an ornament. The head represents a face with finely drawn features, the eyes and nostrils hollowed out, the mouth open as if letting out a sound. Singing was a major form of expression in Eskimo culture, practiced in a multitude of circumstances: transmission of myths, commemoration of events, work, healing rituals, or simply to pass the time. The artist has undoubtedly wanted to immortalize the magical action of singing through the intense expression of a face. Beautiful cream patina with brown shades.
