SAINT-ELME Ida (1778-1845).
A Dutch-born adventuress, courtesan and writer, she was the mistress of General Moreau and Marshal Ney. Autograph letter signed " La Contemporaine ida St Elme " Aix, September 11, 1828. 3 ½ pp., gd in-4. This long letter was written one year after the beginning of the publication of the Mémoires d'une contemporaine (1827) and evokes different subjects she thought to make a " (...) noble work for the cause, wishing it hearts as purely devoted as the one of the Contemporaine to Napoleon, to the glory of the force. (...)" she continues by evoking a collection that she wishes "to address to him at the 18th or the 20th" which will be corrected and increased, she thinks of joining to this manuscript her "voyage of Avignon".
