CENDRARS Blaise (1887-1961).
Autograph manuscript signed "Modernité N°1", (s.l.) May 3, 1919. 2 pp. in-4 on squared vellum. Interesting manuscript entitled "Modernité N°1" subtitled "Quelle sera la nouvelle peinture aux Indépendants 1919?" published in the n°1 of La Rose rouge of May 3, 1919, magazine directed by Maurice Magre and Pierre-Silvestre. In his chronicle, Blaise Cendrars lets his impatience and his joy shine through "For the first time in five years, all the trends of the young generation are side by side. The world of the painters is in commotion. (...) ". He goes on to ask many questions: "What will be the new painting at the 1919 independents? Will there be surprise? sensation? novelty? Is it the end of cubism? (...) the cubist block crumbles. Thousand tendencies appear. (...) the cubist formulas are not enough anymore. The aspects, the contrasts of the modern life are too complex (...) This is why the new painters are sensual and the novelty that they bring it is: the color! (...) " he evokes finally the changes in the subjects, the dimensions of the works and concludes " And this is a big revolution. We have finally a painter and another painter. Mallarmé and Rimbaud. (...)".
