CÉLINE Louis Ferdinand Destouches dit (1894-1961).
Fragment of the autograph manuscript "Féérie I", (s.l.n.d.). 82 pp. and 2 half-pages large folio (21 x 34 cm). This important manuscript is rich of corrections, erasures, various annotations (crosses in red or blue pencil). The text is written in blue pen, the numbering is the following: 61, 65 until 147. It is necessary to note the presence of two pages 73, of pages 100 and 110 bis, it misses the page numbered 134. 17 pages of this manuscript are written recto verso. The numbering of the versos is different. This folio numbering is characteristic of Céline, who wanted to be able to develop a passage and insert it in the previous version. This manuscript, very different from the final text of Féérie, is largely unpublished. This text is part of the "provisional drafts", originally not intended to be published. From the 23rd page of the manuscript onwards, we find traces of it in the Pléiade T.4, but it does not appear in the notes and variants. A few pages contain some wording by Marie Canavaggia, his secretary. The page n°86 of the manuscript is a good example, we read "of cell is for - 20 years at most - 30 months it is nothing for you - 20 years at most - you are outside - it is the divine alcohol to be outside - get drunk well and death to brels. I give you the pellagra and it is the teeth they fall I admit it I speak in coquet - but one can very well live without teeth (...) " we find some passages page 40 of the T. 4 of the pleiad " Let us be serious, let us admit the things, twenty months of cell, thirty years, for you, it is nothing!... You are outside!... it is the divine alcohol to be outside!... Are all crazy of self-esteem outside!... (...) Get drunk!... Prayers and all! Lourdes that it lasts!... (...) I will be happy to see a little more clearly, to have a little less dizziness... and even a little less pellagra... it seems nothing pellagra... (...) a knife it kills me! it is the high evil, it is the purple access, that it turns! irresponsible... it will be happy to see me without teeth... every morning three... four... that I extirpate myself!... I occupy myself!... they wank... Oh, certainly there is more serious!... coquetry! Personal respect!... You, you would not affect you!... Certainly one can very well live without teeth! you think!... Especially in cell! (...). Exciting manuscript where we find the verve and the musicality so characteristic of Céline. Provenance : Lucette Destouches of his life.
