BARBEY D'AUREVILLY Jules (1808-1889).
Autograph letter signed to "My dear Artist" [The painter Gabriel Lefébure], Paris, 20. [Feb. 1875]. 1 ½ p., in-8 in red ink, with his motto "NEVER MORE". Envelope enclosed, postmarks. Letter dealing with his portrait, Barbey complains "You have made me lose my time that is, what I value most. Yesterday, at four o'clock, I was at Mr. Coligny's, the commissioner of Passy. There was neither the commissioner (...) - nor anyone! I left a note for M. de Coligny to tell him that I had come to claim a portrait belonging to me, done by M. Lefébure, - and today I am sending him, in form, my claim, imperious as my right, because in the end, your obligations towards La Jolivet, do not concern me. I must have what is mine (...) ".
