Mumuye figure, Nigeria
H. 21 1/2 in
According to family tradition, the Mumuye figures were acquired from Jacques Kerchache.
An anthropomorphic figure, the character stands with his arms at his sides and his face delicately bent, giving him a contemplative attitude. A central sagittal crest surmounts the head, flanked on either side by a cascading motif. The long face shows a prominent nose, two round eyes and a small, barely outlined mouth. The outline of the face and arms is decorated with a sculpted frieze of small cuts. A small, round and prominent umbilicus surmounts the straight and wide legs without feet.
