Two funerary ornaments, Solomon Islands Melanesia Clam... - Lot 253 - Giquello
Two funerary ornaments, Solomon Islands Melanesia Clam (Tridacna gigas) H. 11 cm and 14.5 cm Set of two beautiful pagosia funerary ornaments carved from a giant clam shell representing a pierced half-circle topped by square holes and indentations. These two ornaments probably come from a shell stick that had a double function: a charm for head hunting, installed on the prow of dugout canoes; a stick for the dead, placed in front of funeral homes for the protection of skulls.
