Gan spoon Burkina Faso Bronze L.19,7 cm Large... - Lot 148 - Giquello
Gan spoon Burkina Faso Bronze L.19,7 cm Large bronze Gan spoon with a calabash shape. It has a flat handle and a hemispherical spoon. A geometrical decoration unfolds on the surface. We quote Maine Durieu's words about this work: "The majesty of this object and the beauty of its extremely refined and precious decoration lead us to believe that it is a Gan bronze that belonged to the royal family. This type of spoon must have been used during the great ceremonies linked to royalty. (...) The Gan never stopped travelling for many reasons throughout their history. (...) It seems that by fleeing and changing territories, the Gan took the habit of burying their treasures to keep them safe. Even today, the Gan protect their objects by burying them in sacred places."
