Gan bracelet Burkina Faso Bronze H. 10,6... - Lot 147 - Giquello
Gan bracelet Burkina Faso Bronze H. 10,6 cm Important bronze Gan bracelet consisting of an open rush topped by two heads with distinct hairstyles. These figures seem to be inspired by both anthropomorphic and zoomorphic repertoires - certainly reptilian. It could be the representation of a couple of ancestors or clan founders. This type of bracelet being particularly rare, it must have been reserved for a certain elite. Remarkable patina of use. "The human figure is rarely represented among the Gan, and when it asserts itself as such, it is to show the continuous dialogue between man and nature. We often find a hybrid form, half-human, minimal, the man being freed from his carapace, he appropriates the place of the bird, the frog, etc., participating in the imaginary world of the Gan which draws its strength from nature" (Durieu and Goy, 2005, p. 101). See Goy B., and Itzikovitz M. (2012, p. 166) for a very similar bracelet.
