Two-headed Gan snake Burkina Faso Bronze H.... - Lot 121 - Giquello
Two-headed Gan snake Burkina Faso Bronze H. 19.2 cm Bronze Gan sculpture of a two-headed snake with a particularly undulating body. The triangular heads of the reptiles are marked by two protruding eyes and end in a large bulge in the snout. Two lateral appendages frame the face. Very nice shaded patina. These ornaments are generally described as anklets. Suspended from the leg, they were supposed to provide their owner with protection against snake bites and ward off evil spirits.
