RIENZI (Louis Domeny de)
Petition of the colored men of the Bourbon Island to the Chamber of Deputies. Followed by some considerations. Paris, Imprimerie d'Auguste Mie, s.d. [1831]. Booklet in-8 of 16 pages, bradel cardboard, first cover preserved (Modern binding). First edition. The author was the representative of the coloured men of Bourbon Island. In the name of the black populations of the island, he demands equality between whites and blacks; he asks the government that the men of color participate in the same duties as the white population, and animated as much as they are by the purest patriotism, be recognized as French citizens, enjoy the same political rights and be governed by the same laws, by an administration and a judicial order, similar to those enjoyed by a department of continental France, and that the local authority can no longer establish any distinction between the two populations.
