BOYER PEYRELEAU (Eugène-Édouard)
In the Name of the King. Organization of the National Guards of Guadeloupe and its Dependencies. [At the end]: Done and Arrested at Basse-Terre, island of Guadeloupe, on December 6, 1814. At Basse-Terre, at Ginet, Government Printer [1814]. Booklet in-4, bradel modern cardboard. Very rare printing of Guadeloupe, after the restitution of the island by the English. The signature of the treaty of Paris in March 1814 put an end to the war between France and Great Britain which restored Guadeloupe. Considering that it was of the utmost importance for the internal security of the Colony, and more particularly for that of the rural properties, Boyer Peyreleau (1774-1856), appointed interim governor of the island, decided that an armed force composed of the inhabitants aged from 16 to 55 years old, designated under the name of "national guard", should be organized on the spot.
