In-8, paperback, marbled paper cover (Spanish binding of the time). Thesis of the first woman to receive a "doctor of philosophy" in Spain. Nice printing by Joachim Ibarra, printer to the King, whose large coat of arms is depicted on the frontispiece. Born in Madrid in 1767 into a large family of Spanish nobility, Maria de Guzman y de La Cerda was granted a special dispensation to study at the University of Alcala de Henares, where she was awarded the degree of philosophy in June 1785. A member of the Royal Spanish Academy, she died in 1803.
