[LUYNES (cardinal de)]
Description and construction of the astronomical ring. S.l.n.d. [Paris, second half of the 18th century]. Booklet in-8 of 14 pages, stapled, marbled paper cover (Binding of the time). Brochure with a folding plate showing the astronomical ring, engraved on copper by Delagardette. Prelate and astronomer, the cardinal of Luynes (1703-1788), who was also archbishop of Sens, had designed and had built under his eyes for his particular use, by Mr. Baradelle fils, engineer for mathematical instruments in Paris, an astronomical ring which is considered to have been one of the most advanced built up to then. Separate edition, with a particular title page and pagination, of the description originally published in 1774 in the Gnomonique pratique by Bedos de Celles. The author's copy, it seems, as suggested by this comment on the cover: Description de l'anneau astronomique que j'ai fait exécuter avec le dessein le plus exact de l'Anneau et de toutes les pièces dont il est composé et qui est parfaitement gravé.
