BOURBON ISLAND. - Extract from the Registres... - Lot 105 - Giquello
BOURBON ISLAND. - Extract from the Registres du Conseil d'État privé du Roi. S.l.n.d. [at the end]: [Paris], De l'Imprimerie de Moreau, [1741]. Small folio, 14 pages, modern bradel boards. Interesting printed document relating an "unjust condemnation" in Bourbon Island. Condemned to infamous & afflictive punishments by Judges who were challenged & taken to task, who made them groan for several years in dungeons & the most awful prisons with the intention of making them perish, inhabitants of the colony, miserable victims of greed & tirannie, [....] escaped by a kind of miracle from the fury of their enemies, implore the King to grant them a decree to restore their rights and their honor, and to restore the property that was confiscated from them. With details on the colonists and slaves who played a role in the events and on the life and activities of the colony.
