SENAULT (Louis)
The Source of the most Curious Writings of Finance and Italian bastard, according to the ordinary use of all the Expeditions practised in this Kingdom. Dedicated to Monseigneur the duke of Burgundy. Paris, N. J. B. de Poilly, s.d. [18th century]. In-folio, half calf, red morocco title-piece on the first cover, smooth spine decorated with a grotesque pattern (modern binding). Beautiful book of writing, containing 29 plates engraved on copper by Louis Senault offering different models of financial writing. Plate n° V contains a very curious advice to the reader, with an extremely morbid tone: "Stop your reader, and consider that all those whose prosperities you madly envy, are condemned like you to go from bed to beer, and from beer to the concavities of the earth [.... are condemned to become the infection of the tombs, the food of the worms, the dust of the cemeteries, the joy of the winds, the mire of the storms, and the footstool of the passers-by. Spots and freckles. Marginal repairs to first 5 leaves.
