In-8, marbled basane, triple gilt fillet, spine decorated, red title, marbled edges (18th century binding). Caillet, n°7923. Rare first edition. Among the great men falsely accused of magic or contact with the supernatural, Gabriel Naudé (1660-1653), physician, bibliophile and librarian to Mazarin, cites Pythagoras, Democritus, Aristotle, Cardan, Raymond Lulle, Arnaud de Villeneuve, Paracelsus, Henri Corneille d'Agrippa, Savanarole, Nostradamus, Bacon, Tritheme, Albert the Great, etc. The copy belonged to François Moutier (1881-1961), a Norman physician and poet (engraved bookplate). Handwritten bookplate of Raoul Vignes in Nyons, 1915. Several quires uniformly foxed, some browned. Rubbing to the binding, old restoration to three jaws, small loss to the upper cover.
