Lyon, François Didier, 1580 [at the end] : Printed in Lyon, by Estienne Brignol, 1580. 16 p., stiff vellum (modern binding). Baudrier, vol. IV, p. 92. - Garrison-Morton, n°4964. - J.-M. Dechaud, Gabriel Chappuys, pp. 197-200. First edition of the French translation of one of the founding texts of modern psychiatry, translated by Gabriel Chappuys. Initially published in Spanish in 1575, the work assured its author, the Spanish philosopher and humanist Juan de Huarte († 1592), a great reputation throughout Europe. According to Garrison-Morton, this book exposes, for the first time, the relationship between physiology and psychology. Translated into several languages, it was banned upon its publication by the Inquisition. Manuscript bookplate of a religious congregation on the title. More or less extensive wetness throughout the volume.
