BOUELLES (Charles de)
Geometricum opus, duobus libris comprehensum. Paris, Michel Vascosan, 1557. In-8, marbled half calf with small vellum corners, spine decorated, red title page (modern binding in the old taste). First edition. Numerous geometrical figures in the text. Philosopher, theologian and mathematician born around 1479 in Picardy, Charles de Bouelles (Bovillus in Latin) was the disciple and friend of Jacques Lefèvre d'Étaples. His varied writings touch on philosophy, metaphysics, religion, but also mathematics: we owe him in particular in 1511 the first treatise on geometry in French. Restorations in the bottom of the first two leaves and in the corners of the last one. Worm holes in some leaves.
