STILLE OF PARLIAMENT (The), and of the requests... - Lot 9 - Giquello
STILLE OF PARLIAMENT (The), and of the requests of the country. The declaration of the countries and provinces subjugated to the said court. S.l.n.d. [on the colophon]: Paris, 28 January 1524. In-4, brown calf, double framed with cold filets, small gilt iron at the corners (Modern binding). Bechtel, S-246. - Moreau, vol. III, no. 751. Very rare gothic edition of this judicial manual describing the procedures and petitions that took place in the parliament of Paris, the highest court in the kingdom responsible for dispensing justice on behalf of the king. Inspired in part by the Stilus Curie Parlamenti of Guillaume du Breuil, a lawyer who died around 1344, the work also contains two interesting lists giving the names of 85 advocates playing in the said court of parliament and those of 137 procurators in the same court. The title is set in a wide border decorated with various woodcut motifs, with the initials of Pierre Gromors. The same border is found on the verso of the last leaf, with the arms of France in the centre. Only two copies of this edition are listed in public collections (Autun and Reims). Stains on the title and slight angular wetness on a few leaves; old traces of writing on the title and the last leaf, almost erased.
