RHAZES
De curis egritudinum particularium noni Almansoris Pratica uberrima. S.l.n.d. [at colophon] : Venice, Alessandro and Benedetto Bindoni, 14 April 1521. In-8 gothic, calf turned over, framed with cold fillets, smooth spine (Modern binding in the ancient taste). Rare Gothic Venetian edition of Marco Gattinara's commentaries on the Almansor, a famous collection of medical texts written by Rhazes in the 9th and 10th centuries. Printed in long-line Gothic type. Typographical mark in Justice at the end of the volume. Marco Gattinara (ca. 1442-1496), an Arabist physician, taught the practice of Rhazes at the faculty of Pavia. He is credited with the invention of the syringe, of which he first made wooden and then metal models. This instrument is represented in this volume, f. 74 v°. The work also contains three short medical treatises at the end, including one on syphilis (morbo gallico). A copy with a few annotations by a contemporary hand.
