BALZAC (Honoré de). History of the Emperor told in a Barn by an Old Soldier. Paris, J.-J. Dubochet et Cie, J. Hetzel et Paulin, Aubert et Comp, 1842. In-16, bradel green half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated with the figure of Napoleon, untrimmed, cover (Carayon). Charming edition, very rare, decorated with vignettes by Lorentz engraved on wood by Brévière and Novion (cf. Carteret, t. III, p. 46). A very well bound copy, with the cover, in which a Vie de Napoléon has been added at the end, an episodic scene composed and played by Alcide Tousez, with this verve and this sublimity of stupidity that we know him for (8 manuscript pages). Engraved bookplate J. Wagrez. Cover soiled.
