History of the Bastille from its foundation in 1374 to its destruction in 1789 [sic], its prisoners, its governors, its archives, details of the tortures and supplications used against the prisoners, etc. Paris, Administration de librairie, 1844. 8 volumes in 4 large in-8, aubergine half-chagrin, smooth spine decorated with rocaille irons, first cover illustrated (Binding of the period). Magnificent edition, splendidly illustrated with steel engravings, executed by our first artists. Beautiful romantic binding decorated on the spine with rocaille irons. Spotting on the edges and some marginal foxing, especially in the fourth volume. Spine faded, corners rubbed.
