The Righteous. Play in five acts. Paris, Gallimard, NRF, 1950. In-12, red morocco, jansenist, smooth spine with gilt title, blue nubuck lining and endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine, case (Alix). First edition of this play created on December 15, 1949 at the Théâtre Hébertot, in a production by Paul Oettly, with Maria Casarès, Serge Reggiani and Michel Bouquet. One of 70 copies on vellum pur fil. Beautiful signed letter from Albert Camus on the false title: to Lina and Pierre Brasseur, in memory of the siege of Marigny, with the affectionate thoughts of their brother in arms, Albert Camus. The letter refers to L'État de siège, a play by Camus on the theme of totalitarianism and fear, staged the previous year on the stage of the Marigny theatre, with Pierre Brasseur in the role of Nada.
