CÉLINE (Louis Ferdinand Destouches).
Scandal in the Abyss. Typed script signed with some autograph annotations and corrections, (n.d., ca. 1940). 45 folio pages. The typescript is titled Scandal in the Abyss and it is stated that the document is "a typescript for a film, ballet or cartoon- by L.F. Celine." The autograph annotations (in blue pen) are mainly on the first page at the top left "For the Editor?" facing right "Exact title? To be seen". On the last page we find the signature preceded by "Voir mon blabla". This script does not present the classical codes since it does not include any stage indication, nor any formatting. Céline's characteristic style is present, as well as her favourite themes (the industrial city, mythology), without forgetting a profusion of ellipsis etc. Céline tells us the adventure of the Siren Pryntyl with whom Neptune falls in love. Venus, jealous, exiles Pryntyl to the city of Le Havre, where she becomes a trainer in the bars of the port. She will finally be delivered by Neptune. Scandale aux abysses, written in the 1940s, was never produced, but it was published in 1950 by Chambriand and illustrated by the artist Pierre-Marie Renet (pseudonym of Pierre Monnier)
