BASSAN (Jean)
- Juliette - Comedy in 3 acts. Set of autograph and typescripts, (s.l.n.d. [1938]). 112 pages and 10 half-pages, various sizes mainly in-4 collected in a folio paper folder. Folder with autograph dispatch, leaves accompanied by a documentary file, all in a midnight blue half-chagrin folder and slipcase, spine rubbed. Interesting manuscript, probably the first draft in view of the numerous differences with the published text of the play (see no. 900 of La Petite Illustration), the erasures and corrections. We note that "Act III" is very different from the published version mentioned above. A typescript completes this set, it corresponds to the end of Act III with some variants (difference in names mainly), additions and corrections in ink and pencil. The documentary file includes: No. 900 of La Petite Illustration of December 24, 1938, bearing a long autograph mailing on the title page "To Serge very kindly. To Michelle without whom this play might have been written, but without whom in any case it would surely not have been performed. With the very ambitious hope that she will never regret this responsibility (...)"; the programme of the Théâtre de l'Oeuvre n°46; a signed typewritten document (typed signature), (s.l.n.d.), 2 pages in-folio, entitled "A propos de "Juliette"" with autograph surtitle "Avant-première pour Figaro". In this document he evokes his amazement and joy at the choice of his play by the Théâtre de l'Oeuvre and the emotion during the rehearsals; an autograph document signed with his initials (J.B.) (s.l.n.d.), 2 pages draft of an article about Michelle Maurois.
