GIRAUDOUX (Jean).
La Guerre de Troie n'aura pas lieu. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1935. In-12, black morocco, jansenist, smooth spine with gilt title, gilt fillet inside, orange box lining and endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine, case (Alix). First edition. One of the most famous plays by Jean Giraudoux (1882-1944) and of the French repertoire. It was first performed on November 22, 1935 at the Athénée Theatre, under the direction of Louis Jouvet who played the lead role of Hector. Its success was immediate. One of the very rare copies on japon nacré: this one is not numbered and the justification indicates that only 3 copies were printed on this luxury paper, all of them reserved for the author and his friends. Perfect lined binding by Alix.
