PAGNOL (Marcel).
Marius. Paris Fasquelle, 1931. - Fanny. Paris, Fasquelle, 1932. - César. Paris, Fasquelle, 1937. Set of 3 volumes in-8, royal blue morocco, double listel of grey and blue morocco, spine decorated with listels and bearing the gilt title, edge-to-edge lining and beige box endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, covers and spine, wooden paper cases (H. Duhayon). Original editions, forming the complete collection of Marcel Pagnol's (1895-1974) famous Marseille trilogy. In 2008, with Fanny, Marcel Pagnol entered the Comédie-Française repertoire. First copies on Japon impérial: 50 copies for Marius and Fanny, and 25 copies for César. Each volume bears a signed letter from the author to Dr. Pierre Martin. At the head of César, the publisher has reproduced in facsimile a handwritten page by Pagnol concerning the various forms of expression of dramatic art, from ballet to silent films, and the new possibilities offered by talking movies, a medium Pagnol was able to exploit by adapting his plays and creating his own production company Les Films Marcel Pagnol. In this introduction, Pagnol had misspelled the word marionettes [sic]: in this copy, he underlined the typo and added the following note in his handwriting: Two n's are needed, but better with only one. Nice collection in Henri Duhayon's lined binding, despite the heavily faded spines. From René Rouzeau's library (1905-1976), with his bookplate: lyricist for Édith Piaf, he is notably responsible for the song La Goualante du pauvre Jean sung and recorded by La Môme in 1954.
