PAGNOL (Marcel).
Topaz. Paris, Fasquelle, 1930. In-8, paperback, uncut, printed cover filled. First edition. The premiere of Topaze, in October 1928 at the Théâtre des Variétés, was a triumph. The play was first brought to the screen in 1932 by Louis Gasnier and Léopold Marchand, with Louis Jouvet in the title role; the 1951 film version was played by Fernandel. One of the 75 first copies on japon impérial. Signed letter from the author to Claude Bénédick, general secretary of the Comédie-Française from 1960 to 1970. This copy is enriched with an autograph letter from Marcel Pagnol (one and a half page in-4 on Films Marcel Pagnol letterhead); in an obscene tone, he addresses a friend and gives him news about the film Angèle: Angèle is finishing editing, if I dare say so. [...] Do you walk with chicks on the Côte d'Azur? Do you fuck beautiful whores on the shores of Armorica? Nothing, no news from you, my natural bulwark against American perfidy, my pocketful of unpaid bills, in a word my friend. What does Paramount say? When will we drag them to the Place de Grève, or to the top of Montfaucon? I can't wait [...]. Discharge of the ink of the mailing on the title. CORRECTION: Small tear on the cover
