PAYEN (Albert Liénard dit Louis).
La Victoire - play in 3 acts. Autograph manuscript, (s.l.n.d. [circa 1930]). 92 pages in-8 (including 89 pages from a school notebook). Bound in red morocco, stylized letter W mosaic in black on the first board, five-ribbed spine, rich gilt inner lace, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt head on witnesses, untrimmed, all edges gilt (David 1909). Manuscript with many corrections. It begins with a long dedication poem (3 pages) to Caroline Segond-Weber, a second dedication to Caroline Segond-Weber appears after the title page "To Second-Weber in all admiration for her dramatic genius in all recognition - Louis Payen". The leaves coming from the schoolbook are mounted on tabs. Victory, a play in 3 acts in verse by Louis Payen, was performed at the antique theatre of the arena in Nîmes on June 24, 1911. Caroline Segond-Weber played alongside Albert Lambert and Madeleine Roch. The text seems to have been published very confidentially as it does not appear in Otto Lorenz's monumental Catalogue de la Librairie française. Caroline Segond-Weber (1867-1945), a French actress, was engaged as a boarder at the Comédie-Française in 1887 and became a member of the society in 1902. This manu#####script was bound for Caroline Segond-Weber, with her monogram on the first plate and her bookplate bearing her motto Il sculpte, j'anime.
