GUITRY (SACHA).
Jean de La Fontaine. Paris, Javal et Bourdeaux, 1929. In-4, 185 pages, in sheets, in a modern folder and case. Corrected proofs in the author's hand, with numerous autograph notes. Repeated stamps of the printer Coulouma. The play was first performed in 1916 at the Bouffes-Parisiens theatre. It launched the career of Yvonne Printemps, the nightingale who ousted the actress Charlotte Lysès, who had been married to the author for almost ten years, from the love nest: "He needed a nightingale for his Jean de la Fontaine, a beautiful girl, who could speak, act, and above all sing well. It was I who found her for him. It was I who introduced him to this lovely Yvonne Printemps, as lovely as her name. [...] He put his Nightingale in a cage... and I had to leave, because I'm not a lender like the ant," Charlotte Lysès later confided to Guitry's secretary (Fernande Choisel, Sacha Guitry intime, 1957). Small accidents to the case.
