GUITRY (SACHA).
Le Lion et la Poule - Comédie en 3 actes.Tapuscrit avec corrections et annotations autographes, (s.l.n.d.) 125 pages in-4, divided into three quires (one for each act) stapled together, in red cover. This comedy was first performed on 20 November 1923 at the Edouard VII theatre by Lucien Guitry, Gaston Dubosc, Louis Maurel, Polin and Spinelly. This typescript bears the stamp of the "Agence générale de copies H. Compère" and a large handwritten "S" on all the covers (for Sacha?). It is full of numerous stage directions, movements and didascalies noted in pencil. We also note corrections in the text, opposite the longest ones, which have not all been included in Jacques Lorcey's edition in his work on Sacha Guitry: "In Le Lion et la Poule, we admire the clarity of the language, the purity of the style, the sobriety of a truly classical art. Admirably performed - but somewhat confusing for the spectator of the time - this comedy (which is obviously not tender) had 70 performances until February 17, 1924" (Jacques Lorcey, Éditions PAC, 1985, part n°55, p. 345 to 348). Two versions of the programme of the Théâtre Édouard VII for this comedy are attached.
