FEYDEAU (Georges).
Le Bourgeon. Paris, Librairie théâtrale, 1906. In-12, olive green bradel percaline, smooth spine decorated with a small gilt fleuron, red title page, untrimmed, cover (Binding of the period). First edition, with 3 plans and 3 engravings representing the setting of each act. Spiritual letter from the author to Léon Blum (1872-1950): This, my dear Blum, to force you to think if you ever take the fancy to enter religion, Very cordially in the meantime. G. Feydeau. It is not the statesman that Feydeau is addressing here, but the literary critic that Blum was during the first part of his life. The latter wrote this praise of Feydeau: M. Feydeau is not only the creator of twenty famous vaudevilles, the inventor and master of a genre. He is also the author of The Pimple, that is to say, one of the most penetrating, original, and delicately executed plays that we have been given to applaud for a long time (quoted by Jacques Copeau in Un Siècle de critique dramatique, 2003, pp. 86-87).
