COURTELINE (Georges).
La Conversion d'Alceste - Comedy in 1 act. Autograph manuscript double-signed, (s.l.n.d.). 60 pages in-4 mounted on tabs. Manuscript bound in full red jansenist morocco, five gilt fillets on the front covers, green hardback cover preserved, case (Ch. Septier). Precious autograph manuscript of this famous verse comedy in one act, created at the Comédie Française on January 15, 1905. This play is a pastiche of Molière, an imaginary sequel to Le Misanthrope. "La Conversion d'Alceste does not naturally add anything to Le Misanthrope but, in Courteline's work, it is a successful pastiche and an amusing and lively play" (Lafont-Bompiani, Dictionnaire des Oeuvres). The manuscript consists of a title page, followed by an epistle dedicated to Catulle Mendès signed by the author (5 pages), a presentation page with the list of characters and finally the play (53 pages). Ex-libris of the Jacques de Lorcey collection.
