MIRBEAU (Octave).
The Old Households. Autograph manuscript, (s.l.n.d.). 15 pages in-4 and in-8, mounted on tabs and bound in a volume in-4, red morocco, spine ribbed, title and author gilt, framed with gilt filets (Marius Michel). The manuscript is written in black ink, without margin. The pages are numbered at the top left, except for the first page which is not numbered. Annotations in blue pencil on a large number of pages. Complete manuscript, probably an early draft. There are variations (additions, deletions, erasures) with the version published in Farces et Moralité (1904). This one-act comedy, which premiered at the Théâtre d'Application on December 20, 1894, deals with marital hell and features an old bourgeois couple tearing themselves apart while being anxious to keep up appearances. Octave Mirbeau library sale (I, 1919, n°819), former Sacha Guitry collections, Daniel Sicklès (XV, n°6516) and bâtonnier J-C. D. (2018, n°79).
